Clean Harbors Names CFO James M. Rutledge Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors

Company Promotes Eric Gerstenberg to President of Environmental Services
and David Parry to President of Energy & Industrial Services

Norwell, MA – June 9, 2011 – Clean Harbors, Inc. (“Clean Harbors”) (NYSE: CLH), the leading provider of environmental, energy and industrial services throughout North America, today announced that its Board of Directors appointed James M. Rutledge, 58, the Company’s Executive Vice President, Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer, to Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, effective immediately.

“Since joining Clean Harbors in 2005, Jim has made substantial contributions to the Company’s success in many areas, including operational efficiency, fiscal management and financial analysis,” said Alan S. McKim, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Clean Harbors. “I am delighted to welcome Jim as the 12th member of our Board. His financial expertise and counsel will be invaluable as we continue to aggressively pursue strategic growth opportunities throughout North America.”

Prior to Clean Harbors, Rutledge served as the CFO of Rogers Corporation from 2002 through 2005, where he was responsible for its financial, tax and legal functions as well its supply chain operations worldwide. Prior to Rogers, he served as chief financial officer at Baldwin Technology Company, Inc., a publicly listed manufacturer of controls, accessories and material handling equipment for the printing industry. He also served in various capacities, including vice president and treasurer, over a 20-year span at Witco Corporation, a $2 billion global specialty chemicals company. Rutledge began his career as a CPA at Price Waterhouse & Co.

In addition to Rutledge’s appointment, the Company announced two executive promotions. Eric W. Gerstenberg, formerly Executive Vice President, Environmental Services was promoted to President of the Environmental Services business and David M. Parry, formerly Executive Vice President, Energy and Industrial Services, was promoted to President of the Energy & Industrial Services business.

Gerstenberg, 42, joined Clean Harbors in 1989, and held positions including General Manager of the Company’s Natick, Massachusetts, Baltimore, and Chicago facilities. He was promoted in 2004 to Senior Vice President of Disposal Services overseeing all of the Company’s disposal assets in the U.S. and Canada. In 2010, he was promoted to Executive Vice President, Environmental Services, overseeing Field Services, Technical Services, Disposal Facilities, Transportation and Sales for the Environmental Group.

Parry, 45, joined Clean Harbors in 1988 as a Field Chemist. He has since served in a variety of management positions for the Company, including Senior Vice President of Eastern U.S. Operations, Northeast Regional Vice President, District Sales Manager, Regional Manager of CleanPack® and Transportation & Disposal Services, and Plant Operations Manager and Executive Vice President of Sales and Service for the Environmental Business. He became Executive Vice President, Energy and Industrial Services in 2010.
