Norwell, MA – February 17, 2007 – Clean Harbors Environmental Services, Inc. (“Clean Harbors”), the leading provider of environmental and hazardous waste management services throughout North America, today announced that it has been recognized by the Washington Savannah River Company (WSRC) as their Safe Subcontractor of the Quarter. This recognition and award acknowledges Clean Harbors’ commitment to high safety standards including safety expectations, accountability, responsiveness to project requests, and zero injuries or incidents while under contract at the Savannah River Site (SRS) in the final quarter of 2006.

The SRS, which is owned and operated by the Department of Energy, is an industrial complex that processes and stores nuclear material in support of nuclear non-proliferation efforts. The site also develops and deploys technologies to improve the environment and treat nuclear waste, and is located in South Carolina near Augusta and bordered by the Savannah River.

“We are honored to receive this prominent award from the Washington Savannah River Company,” said Phillip G. Retallick, Senior Vice President – Compliance and Regulatory Affairs. “Safety has always been the foremost priority at Clean Harbors and recognition of this nature just further validates our commitment to it. Our work at SRS has covered a broad range of services, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with WSRC on future projects.”

“Throughout my years of dealing with Clean Harbors, they have been very responsive to all our requirements for safety,” said Ed Schuler, Hazardous Waste Shipping Specialist at WSRC. “Clean Harbors’ reputation for safety excellence led us to employ them not only for routine onsite hazardous waste handling and offsite treatment and disposal, but also for high-risk, reactive chemical disposition. They continue to demonstrate how that reputation was gained.” Mr. Schuler added, “Clean Harbors is currently engaged in their fifth highhazard team project at SRS involving shock sensitive or air reactive chemicals. Due to the medium and high risk tasks they perform and the rigor and discipline they have to safety, it is obvious why Clean Harbors should be awarded Safe Subcontractor of the Quarter.”

Clean Harbors received the safety award at a special awards reception on February 1, at the Savannah River Safety Forum in Aiken, South Carolina.
